Co-ops bring EV charging station to state park

A collaboration between electric cooperatives and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is further expanding the state’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.

Great River Energy, its member-owner cooperative East Central Energy and the DNR recently gathered to mark the successful installation of a new EV charging station at Banning State Park, located in Sandstone, Minnesota.

This project joins other EV charger installations at Tettegouche State Park and Gooseberry Falls State Park, both served by member-owner Cooperative Light and Power. Additional plans at other parks are in progress.

This ongoing expansion is to make it easier for EV owners to go farther than ever, from the Twin Cities to Minnesota’s popular North Shore destinations and all the places in between. EV chargers are now located along the Interstate 35 corridor and Highway 61, allowing drivers to plug in while they head out to hike, canoe, enjoy a picnic or birdwatch.
