Construction on the Northland Reliability Project is well underway.
This new double-circuit, 345-kilovolt electric transmission line will span 180 miles from near Grand Rapids in Itasca County to near St. Cloud in Benton County and into Sherburne County. When complete, the Northland Reliability Project will ensure the power grid in northern and central Minnesota continues to operate safely and reliably as energy resources in Minnesota and the regional power system continue to evolve.
Great River Energy and Minnesota Power and co-developing this project with the first phase of work being completed by Great River Energy.
Contractors have laid over 11,000 mats so far and have had approximately 20,000 total mats (both composite and timber) either delivered to laydown yards or installed. More than 728 trucks loaded with mats have been delivered. Other work includes the installation of foundations.
To date, 41 foundations have been installed with anywhere from five to eight being installed each week.
