Lineworker Appreciation Day is a time to say ‘thanks’ - Great River Energy

Lineworker Appreciation Day is a time to say ‘thanks’

Line technicians are essential to delivering safe, reliable electricity to Great River Energy’s member‑owner cooperatives. The work they do building, maintaining and repairing high‑voltage power lines and electrical equipment demands technical skill, a strong safety mindset and a readiness to respond whenever outages or emergencies occur.

Great River Energy’s 37 line technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating more than 5,100 miles of high‑voltage transmission lines and 109 substations across Minnesota and North Dakota.

Each year, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association designates the second Monday in April as Lineworker Appreciation Day as a way for people to thank a lineworker for the vital work they do.

Great River Energy’s 37 line technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating more than 5,100 miles of high‑voltage transmission lines and 109 substations across Minnesota and North Dakota. In addition to supporting Great River Energy’s system, they also help maintain assets for other organizations. Their work requires technical expertise, constant attention to safety and a willingness to respond whenever storms or emergencies arise.

“Our lineworkers take great pride in their craft and in the responsibility that comes with keeping the system running,” said Matt Reule, manager of transmission construction and maintenance at Great River Energy. “They play a critical role in keeping the power flowing in our region and getting the lights back on when storms strike. Whether they’re performing planned maintenance or responding to an unexpected outage, they show up with professionalism, teamwork and a strong commitment to safety. Their work makes a real difference for our member-owners and communities every day.”
