Falcons return to Elk River nest - Great River Energy

Falcons return to Elk River nest

A sure sign of spring at Great River Energy’s Elk River, Minnesota, campus is the return of peregrine falcons to the nesting box located onsite.

Brooklyn, the male falcon, has returned for a 10th consecutive year and Breezy, the female falcon, has returned for a seventh year. Breeding pairs tend to be monogamous throughout their lifespan and return to the same nesting location year after year. Great River Energy placed its first nesting box at the Elk River Campus in 2006. Since then, 54 young falcons have successfully fledged from the site. The pair may begin producing eggs in late March.
