Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) and Great River Energy propose to rebuild approximately 38 miles of an existing 115-kilovolt (115-kV) transmission line located in Big Stone and Stevens counties in Minnesota. Rebuilding this existing 115-kV transmission line is necessary to increase its capacity to deliver power and improve system reliability. This rebuilding project will meet transmission system needs in this area, which were identified in a recent facility study completed by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). This study reveals that the existing transmission line conductors are sized too small to deliver the additional power generated by anticipated wind and solar projects in this area.
