GRE HERC Services LLC operates the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) located in downtown Minneapolis, on behalf of Hennepin County.
HERC helps the county manage waste by burning garbage to create energy – renewable energy for the electric grid and steam for nearby buildings. The waste-to-energy facility processes 1,000 tons of trash each day. In addition, HERC uses the latest technologies and controls to limit its environmental impact.
