Powerful partnership lights up Twins stadium

Great River Energy collaborates with Let’s Go Fishing to ‘takeover’ Target Field

LED signs at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis lit up with the logos of two not-for-profit organizations for a full afternoon thanks to a collaboration with the Minnesota Twins.

Great River Energy has a long-standing partnership with the Twins through sponsoring its annual Twins Community Fund Baseball and Softball Clinics, which travel throughout rural and suburban parts of the state to bring free lessons to kids and teens.

A group of Let’s Go Fishing representatives and volunteers led Target Field in the seventh-inning stretch during the Takeover Game.

In addition to those clinics, Great River Energy presented a “Takeover Game” at Target Field where the cooperative was immersed in the Target Field experience of ballpark-goers for a day — from LED imagery to PA announcements to even leading the seventh-inning stretch.

Great River Energy Senior Communications Specialist Andrea Lee said the cooperative viewed this as a chance to share the spotlight.

“We chose to take a community-centered approach by helping to platform a nonprofit organization doing good across our member-owners’ service territory that might not otherwise get this type of experience,” said Andrea Lee, senior communications specialist at Great River Energy.

The cooperative highlighted Let’s Go Fishing, an organization with several chapters across Great River Energy’s member-owner service territory that fosters connections between seniors, veterans and disabled people through boat rides and organized fishing trips facilitated by volunteers, as its Takeover Game partner.

Volunteers for Let’s Go Fishing staffed a brand partner kiosk throughout the game and were able to chat one-on-one with fans about the organization.

In addition to the logos of both organizations flashing throughout the stadium during the Sunday, June 22, game against the Milwaukee Brewers, Let’s Go Fishing Operations Director Darci Mohr threw a ceremonial first pitch; volunteers staffed a brand partner kiosk in the concourse where they could speak with fans one-on-one and bring awareness to the organization; and a group of volunteers even led the seventh-inning stretch singing of “Take Me Out To the Ballgame.”

Joe Oprosko, who is chairman of the board of directors for Let’s Go Fishing, said this opportunity came at the right time.

“We are currently looking to expand our chapters in Minnesota and Wisconsin, and garner more volunteers, so the visibility offered to Let’s Go Fishing by the Takeover Game experience was great timing,” Oprosko said. “More than 21,000 fans were at the game, so we were able to spread the word about our organization and received many nice comments for the work we do with seniors, veterans, the disabled and youth groups.”
