Vice President and Chief Transmission Officer Priti Patel recently had the opportunity to tour the LJ Shosten Union Training Center in St. Paul along with Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith.
The visit was made in light of President Joe Biden signing the Inflation Reduction Act into law Aug. 16, which will now allow public power to participate in more direct incentives for hiring local and union labor.
Representatives from the Carpenters Union showed Patel and Smith the facility where apprentices looking to work in the carpentry trade receive training.
“The energy transition will rely on skilled workers and we look forward to partnering with local labor and industry as our portfolio evolves,” Patel said. “Cooperatives are leading the way to reliably meet America’s future energy needs that increasingly depend on electricity to power the U.S. economy.”
