Co-ops welcome new leadership

Several leadership changes have recently taken place at the offices of Great River Energy’s member-owner cooperatives, including retirements, promotions and moves.

Horman to retire, Haler named as shared manager

South Central Electric Association (SCEA), which is based out of St. James, Minnesota, and Redwood Electric Cooperative (REC) — located in Clements, Minnesota — announced the retirement of General Manager Ron Horman, who has been the head of both cooperatives for more than 13 years.

Jim Haler

The cooperatives have shared this leadership position for over 20 years and established a joint board committee, which led the search for its next general manager.

The board presidents from SCEA and REC selected Jim Haler to lead the cooperatives as a shared manager upon Horman’s retirement this summer. Haler joined SCEA in 2011 and is currently the manager of member services. Over the past 14 years, he has helped REC with special projects and served as the government affairs representative for both co-ops.

“I’m excited to work with these two great electric cooperatives, their members, employees and directors,” Haler said.

Joel Janorschke

Two Harbors, Minnesota-based Cooperative Light & Power (CLP) recently announced the resignation of its CEO Joel Janorschke, effective mid-June when he will transition to the CEO of Lake Region Electric Cooperative (LREC).

Janorschke joined the cooperative in October 2022 and focused on delivering safe, reliable energy to members while spearheading the development and implementation of a comprehensive integrated vegetation management program.

CLP’s board is working to appoint an interim CEO and plans to collaborate with Janorschke on a smooth transition prior to his transition to LREC, effective June 16.

“Joel’s years of co-op experience have helped him develop a deep understanding of the current trends and challenges we face,” said LREC Board Chair Tom Jennen, “and we’re confident he’ll continue our mission to provide safe, affordable and reliable power to our members.”

Janorschke has more than 20 years of experience in the energy industry, including a four-year tenure as general manager of Traverse Electric Cooperative.

“I am truly honored to join Lake Region Electric Cooperative,” Janorschke said. “I look forward to collaborating with the LREC staff and building strong relationships while promoting open communication with our members as we look toward the future.”
