Watch young falcons on birdcam

Great River Energy hosts a pair of peregrine falcons each spring and summer. The long-term peregrine falcon residents returned to the Elk River, Minnesota, nest box earlier this spring. Brooklyn, the male, returned for a seventh year and Breezy, the female, returned for a fourth year. The pair produced four eggs in late March. The eggs successfully hatched between April 30 and May 1.

You can watch the eyasses (young falcons) as the grow on Great River Energy’s peregrine falcon cam: greatriverenergy.com/birdcam. Great River Energy will work with the Raptor Resource Project to band the young falcons later this month.

With the help of an Eagle Scout and the Raptor Resource Project, Great River Energy first installed the nesting box in 2006 atop Elk River Energy Recovery Station. Since then, 42 young falcons have fledged from the Elk River location. A few of those falcons have been spotted around Minnesota.

The nest box was relocated in early 2020 to a platform above Great River Energy’s native prairie on the Elk River Campus.
