Great River Energy receives ‘Equality 100 Award’ designation

Great River Energy received a top score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2023-24 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.

Great River Energy joins the ranks of 545 major U.S. businesses that also earned top marks this year and the designation of being a 2023 Equality 100 Award: Leader in LGBTQ+ Workplace Inclusion recipient.

“It’s quite an accomplishment to be consistently recognized as a leader in LGTBQ+ workplace inclusion,” said Jason Vollbrecht, manager of benefits & retirement at Great River Energy and co-chair of the cooperative’s Pride Alliance Employee Resource Group (ERG). “While earning a top score of 100 does not mean perfection, it validates the work we have done as an organization for diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. There is still room to progress and Great River Energy is dedicated to continuing these conversations and doing the necessary work.”

Top-rated CEI employers come from nearly every industry and region of the country. To earn top ratings, these employers took concrete steps to establish and implement comprehensive policies, benefits and practices that ensure greater equity for LGBTQ+ workers and their families.

The index rates companies on detailed criteria falling under four central pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families
  • Supporting an inclusive culture
  • Corporate social responsibility
