Three Great River Energy employees recently received Technology Transfer Awards from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) for their achievements in collaborative research and development projects.
Presented annually, EPRI’s Technology Transfer Awards recognize industry leaders and innovators who help companies transform research into results and solutions that can improve the efficiency of power plants, harden transmission and distribution equipment, improve cybersecurity and enhance end-use electrification–-all for the benefit of utility customers.
Mike Herman, leader, combustion turbines, and Craig Marschall, peaking plant operator technician foreperson, received an award for applying a new practice for gauging the risk of failure in gas turbines. An inspection technique developed by EPRI, known as the “pinging protocol,” enabled four power generators to quickly identify risk of failure.
Mark Strohfus, environmental project lead, also received an award for his work integrating technical analyses of climate-related science into company practices.
