Great River Energy earns recognition for fostering a culture that empowers employees to serve both the co-op and their country
Great River Energy took the national spotlight last month, earning recognition as one of the Navy Reserve’s outstanding employer partners — an honor that celebrates the cooperative’s unwavering commitment to supporting employees who serve.

At the Navy Employer Recognition Event in San Diego, Great River Energy was recognized among top employers across the country for going above and beyond in supporting Reserve Sailors. Hosted by Rear Adm. Richard S. Lofgren, the event highlights organizations that make it possible for service members to successfully balance civilian careers with military responsibilities.
This year’s recognition carries special meaning because it was driven by one of Great River Energy’s own.
“The award reflects the cooperative’s longstanding commitment to employees who serve,” said Great River Energy Power Supply Asset Analyst Vanessa Davenport.
A U.S. Navy veteran and current Navy Reservist, Davenport has personally experienced the flexibility and understanding that set Great River Energy apart.
“This recognition speaks to who we are as an organization,” she said. “At Great River Energy, military service is respected and supported. The trust and flexibility employees receive allow them to meet both their professional responsibilities and their commitment to serving our country.”

Great River Energy was represented at the event by Joe Griffitts, technical analyst and leader of the Veterans Employee Resource Group, and David Jimenez, supervising manager of field communication and networks. Griffitts, who served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserve, and Jimenez, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Minnesota Army National Guard, brought personal perspective to the recognition, making the moment even more meaningful.
“This was a phenomenal event,” Griffitts said. “Seeing firsthand the professionalism and dedication of Navy Reserve Sailors reinforced how important it is that employers like Great River Energy provide unwavering support. It made me incredibly proud to be part of an organization that truly stands behind those who serve.”
Jimenez views employer support of the military as a mutually beneficial arrangement.
“Seeing the scope of what these Sailors do every day reinforces how important that support really is,” Jimenez said. “The leadership, discipline and sense of purpose they bring back to the workplace make our organization stronger.”
