Brooklyn and Breezy, a pair of peregrine falcons, have returned to their Great River Energy nesting box for their 11th and 8th consecutive years, respectively. Breeding pairs tend to be monogamous throughout their lifespan and return to the same nesting location year after year.
Since its return, the falcon pair has laid four eggs that are anticipated to hatch at the end of April. Peregrine falcon eggs typically incubate for 33 to 35 days. The female falcon does most of the incubating, but the male will also incubate the eggs for short periods, allowing the female to hunt.
Since 2006, 57 young falcons have fledged from the Great River Energy nesting box. A few of those falcons have been spotted around Minnesota. The nest box is located on Great River Energy’s Elk River campus, which serves as a great spot for a nesting box because it is in a peregrine falcon migratory flyway beside the Mississippi River.
