Co-ops collaborate on osprey nest project

Employees from Great River Energy and member-owner cooperative Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC), located in Jordan, Minnesota, recently teamed up to install a used transmission line pole on Mystic Lake Casino property for an osprey nest.

Cooperative employees worked together to install a used transmission line pole for an osprey nest.

The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community tribe, which owns Mystic Lake Casino, originally contacted MVEC for help with this project request, but the poles MVEC had available were not tall enough. MVEC then contacted its wholesale power supplier, Great River Energy, which donated both a pole and the manpower to install it.

“We are member driven and are honored to go the extra mile to support our member-owner communities and the environment,” said Matt Reule, manager of transmission construction and maintenance at Great River Energy.
