New fire engine ready to serve Jamestown area

The Jamestown Rural Fire Department’s newest truck has arrived and is ready to keep the community safe, thanks in part to a $25,000 donation from Great River Energy.

The department covers a wide area surrounding Jamestown, North Dakota, including Great River Energy’s combined heat and power plant Spiritwood Station and the homes of many employees and their families.

The new truck replaces a 1987 model and features a host of new capabilities and technology, all of which will keep the community and Spiritwood Station a little safer.

“The Jamestown Rural Fire Department has responded to the plant when we have needed them and this new truck will help keep the plant and — most importantly — our team safe,” said Spiritwood Station Plant Manager Glenn Hauck. “We have a great relationship with the fire department, which is an important partner for a power plant.”

Great River Energy’s donation went a long way toward closing a $140,000 funding gap to purchase the truck. The majority of the funding came from a 0% interest loan through the USDA Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant Program sponsored by the local electric cooperative. The remaining funds came from local fundraising and private donations.
