Great River Energy Resource Plan

Great River Energy’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) provides a comprehensive view of our resource plans for the next 15 years. The plan represents our intent to reliably meet our members’ energy needs in a cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. Our preferred resource plan continues to position our power generation portfolio toward a lower-carbon future and includes additional wind generation. Our plan continues to rely on energy efficiency and conservation measures. It also highlights our innovative electrification and grid modernization initiatives.

We filed our most recent IRP with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) on April 28, 2017.

The commission accepted it by a vote of 3-1 on Oct. 25, 2018. PUC Chair Nancy Lange commended Great River Energy’s “customer-centric” approach to resource planning. Commissioner Dan Lipschultz observed that Great River Energy has been moving “pretty dramatically over time to a less carbon-intensive mix.”

Great River Energy must file its next integrated resource plan by April 1, 2021.
