The storm we are experiencing across the state is having a severe impact on the electric system for Great River Energy, its member-owner cooperatives, and our neighboring utilities. We have approximately 200 structures down on our transmission system and we understand that our neighboring utilities have approximately 150 structures down on their systems.
As the storm continues, we expect to find more damage we have not yet identified.
Great River Energy’s system is most heavily damaged in the areas that serve member-owners Federated Rural Electric Association, Nobles Cooperative Electric, and South Central Electric Association. There are nearly 8,300 member-consumers without power. Great River Energy and other utility crews have been working throughout the storm to restore the system. The safety of our work crews remains our highest priority. In addition to restoration efforts, we have been focused on public safety, particularly where structures have fallen onto roadways.
We are working diligently and safely to restore the system affected by the storm.
