The St. Wendel Substation portion of this project is on-going; all other portions of the project have been completed. To meet increasing demand for electricity in the townships of LeSauk, St. Wendel, St. Joseph, and the cities of Sartell, Waite Park, St. Joseph and St. Cloud, Great River Energy and Stearns Electric Association have proposed an upgrade to the electric system in the area. The proposed project includes Great River Energy building approximately 2.4 miles of 115-kV transmission line to serve two distribution substations: the existing LeSauk distribution substation (which was upgraded in 2010) and a new St. Wendel distribution substation yet to be built by Stearns Electric Association.

The three major components to this system upgrade are listed below.

  • LeSauk to St. Wendel 115 kV transmission lines
  • Upgrade of LeSauk substation
  • New St. Wendel substation
