Patel elected to Midwest Reliability Organization board

Great River Energy Vice President and Chief Transmission Officer Priti Patel was elected in early November to the Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) board of directors.

The MRO recently asked for nominations from its industry sector members to fill seats on its board of directors. Patel will represent the cooperative sector. Her term will start Jan. 1.

“This is a unique opportunity to represent cooperatives and Great River Energy at our regulatory agency,” Patel said. “The MRO has long been a partner in ensuring we provide reliable electricity to our member owners, and I look forward to that continued partnership.”

The MRO’s board of directors is a hybrid board with four independent directors, two regional directors and 17 stakeholder directors. The independent and regional directors are elected by all voting members, and the stakeholder directors are elected by the members of seven industry sectors.

The MRO’s primary responsibilities are to ensure compliance with mandatory North American Electric Reliability Corporation reliability standards by entities that own, operate or use the interconnected, international bulk power systems. It also conducts assessments of the grid’s ability to meet electricity demand in the region and performs analysis of regional system events.

The MRO fosters an open forum for stakeholder experts in the region to discuss important topics related to addressing risk and improving reliable operations of the bulk power system and serves as a vital link between users, owners, operators and other stakeholders who share common reliability interests in the region.
