Minnesota Twins honor Great River Energy’s support of veterans

Before the first pitch of the July 23 game between the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees, Twins Territory applauded Great River Energy.

Great River Energy was recognized for being a Yellow Ribbon Company, which certifies the company’s support of U.S. service men and women and their families.

A contingent of Great River Energy employees, including members of the co-op’s Veterans Employee Resource Group, were recognized at a recent Minnesota Twins game for the company’s support of U.S. service men, women and their families.

In a public address announcement, the Twins shared that “Great River Energy has built extensive partnerships with numerous community partners, including the Yellow Ribbon Networks, local businesses and chambers of commerce, and veterans service organizations, to better facilitate support of the military community.”

Great River Energy was named Minnesota’s 57th Yellow Ribbon Company in 2017. Yellow Ribbon Companies must have an action plan for veteran recruiting, hiring and retention, while supporting military-connected employees and community groups.

“We value and recognize military experience at Great River Energy,” said Vice President and Chief Corporate and Member Services Officer Mark Fagan, who sponsors Great River Energy’s Veterans Employee Resource Group, one of several groups the cooperative created to provide support, networking opportunities, mentoring and community participation among employees. “The technical skills and leadership qualities learned in the military have prepared many of our employees to serve the cooperative members of Minnesota.”

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a program pioneered by the Minnesota National Guard to connect all Minnesota service members, veterans and their families with community support, services and resources.

The Minnesota Twins recognize Yellow Ribbon Companies that go above and beyond in supporting service members and their families.
