Two of Great River Energy’s member-owner cooperatives were recognized for achievements in communications and marketing by the national association of electric cooperatives.
Lake Country Power (LCP) and Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association (WH) were honored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association with Spotlight on Excellence Awards for their outstanding work this past year. The program’s 16 categories reflect the wide scope and valuable contributions of co-op communicators today. More than 670 entries were submitted by cooperative professionals.
LCP, based in Cohasset, Minnesota, earned gold in the “Most Innovative Use of Digital Communication” category for a video series titled “My job. My co-op. My life.” The series was written, edited and produced by Greg Schulzetenberg, manager of community relations and marketing.
The co-op also received a silver award in the “Best Event” category for its “Hot Stick” safety education program. The presentation was created, written and executed for several third-grade classrooms in 2019 and continues to be offered to elementary schools each year.
WH, based in Rockford, Minnesota, took home gold in the “Best External News Publication” category for its printed newsletter, Hotline Update. The publication is written and designed by the co-op’s marketing team.
“We are honored to be recognized for this award,” said Andrea Unger, WH’s marketing and member service director. “Our team puts a lot of time and effort into these publications, so our members are provided with interesting and relevant content about what is happening at their co-op.”
