Great River Energy and Beneficial Electrification League (BEL) announce Electrify Minnesota! The Future Is Electric! – a one-day meeting at Great River Energy on Nov. 28, specifically intended to promote the broad market acceptance of Beneficial Electrification (BE) concepts, policies, practices, technologies and business models.
BEL defines Beneficial Electrification in this way: the application of electricity to end-uses that would otherwise consume fossil fuels (e.g., natural gas, propane, oil, gasoline) where doing so satisfies at least one of the three following conditions, without adversely affecting the other two.
- Benefit the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Save consumers money over time
- Foster a more robust and resilient grid
The League believes Beneficial Electrification is critical to meeting Minnesota’s economic and environmental goals. The U.S. Department of Energy and academic researchers across the country are promoting Beneficial Electrification as the most effective and inclusive carbon reduction strategy available. Effecting this transition from fossil fuels to electricity will require collaborative information sharing and coordinated market development. To this end, Great River Energy and BEL are convening a one-day event, Electrify Minnesota! on Nov. 28 at Great River Energy, to facilitate the exchange of ideas and experience, education, awareness and market/policy analysis in order to accelerate solutions.
Great River Energy and Beneficial Electrification League welcome participation by electric utilities, environmental and consumer advocates, manufacturers, technology providers and policymakers. Electrify Minnesota! will focus the state’s attention on the immediate opportunity for regional and local public engagement and market development efforts to demonstrate the potential benefits of electric space and water heating technology, electric vehicles and charging infrastructure (for passengers, delivery and freight), premise-based battery systems, as well as myriad commercial, agricultural and industrial applications including drying, pumping, and manufacturing, among others.
