Great River Energy and Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) are proposing to construct a 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission project in Scott County, Minnesota. A new MVEC distribution substation would be located in the city of Savage. To provide power to the new MVEC distribution substation, Great River Energy would build approximately 0.3 mile of new overhead double circuit 115-kV transmission line.
The project is needed to provide MVEC with sufficient capacity in the system to back feed the Prior Lake Substation load during highway construction projects and contingencies in the system. The project is also needed to provide reliable service to growing electric loads in the Savage area.
Transmission line length: 0.37 mile
Voltage: 115 kV
Structures: Three single steel poles
Spans: 400 to 900 feet apart
Right of way: 70 feet, 35 feet on each side of the transmission line.
Permits: Conditional Use Permit from city of Savage, Scott County Highway Dept., MnDOT
Great River Energy will contact public agencies and landowners and local elected officials to provide details about the project and to seek their feedback. If a CUP is issued and a final route established, property owners along the transmission line route would be notified individually to discuss specific project details and compensation for the acquisition of easements.
Summer 2017 – Winter 2017
Winter 2017 – Spring 2018
Great River Energy and MVEC have requested a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for the project through the City of Savage.
